SOCIAL SERVICES - This and That!

SILVER COINS NEEDED! - AAC member Marjorie Bean is collecting silver coins (Chilean 1 peso). These are melted down and made into Butterfly IVs for children with cancer. So empty out change drawers and put these pesos to a good use. Look for the glass container at the AAC House marked for this charity.

THANK YOU NOTE - Dear AAC members, Thank you for your generous response to help Jose and his two sisters who were abandoned by their mother. Thank you so much for your gifts of used clothes, shoes and money. The children are being cared for separately in the homes of other relatives. They have enough clothes now. My husband Tim is a Lutheran pastor and missionary in Chile. We know of other needy children, teenagers, and adults in Santiago and in Linares to the south, where we have Lutheran churches. Donations of used clothes, shoes, a teddy bear or doll, blankets, etc., can be left with Virginia at the AAC house, marked "Ellen Erickson." We will see to it that these items go to children in need. Thank you for whatever help you can give. Sincerely, Ellen Erickson

WAY TO GO BIG BLUE BOX! - For these past months AAC members have contributed to several local homes or “Hogars” in Santiago. Such as, “Paz y Alegria”, a home for the elderly and “Mision de Maria”, a home for orphaned or abandoned babies. Our donations range from powdered milk to formula to even toiletries for US prisoners in Chilean prisons. The response has been so extraordinary from our AAC community that extra donations have been passed on to other homes such as, the “Hogar Refugio de Misericordia”, Refuge of Mercy. This particular home provides shelter to young mothers who are wards of the court system. Currently, it provides shelter to twenty young mothers and their babies.

APPLIANCES NEEDED! - Hogar La Esperanza is a group home and workshop for adults with intellectual and physical
handicaps. In an effort to improve the living conditions of the home and the workshop, the following items are needed. They can be donated new or in good working condition: blender, vacuum cleaner, hand mixer, hair dryer, electric toaster, computer, stereo, area rugs, lamps, curtains. Please drop any donations off at the AAC House with a note that they are for Taller La Esperanza and email Kathleen Skog

AUCTION DONATIONS: Are you full of good ideas? Can you think of some fun gifts for an auction? Ways and Means needs your help to coordinate donations for the upcoming Silent/Live Auction. Past years have yielded wonderful gifts. So put on your thinking caps and help us come up with some ideas. Be on the lookout for weekends away, lunches about town, dinners, movie tickets, maybe even a certificate for a manicure or pedicure. You name it and we'll be thrilled to have it! Please let us know if you have ideas or would like to help. Kathy Cundiff or Adrianna Murray (see AAC Directory)
